As a boy I took lessons on the tin whistle, but quickly became bored.
My problem was that the teacher never fully explained embellishment to us.
This meant that the music, we played, sounded very dull when compared to session musicians.
Since finding this site I have developed a renewed interest, as I can follow most of the embellishments when I slow the speed down. I can even play Silverspear (with embellishments) fairly decent (although I do need to speed up my fingerwork a bit). Like a lot of beginner / intermediate players I do not have the experience to insert my own embellishments but want to progress further then playing the basic notes.
I would be delighted if you could record “The Lonesome Boatman” on your site with a clear view of the notes being played. (At a slower then normal pace if possible).
It is my all time favourite piece for the whistle.
Hope you can help.

Glad to hear you're enjoying
Glad to hear you're enjoying the site -- I'm afraid I don't know The Lonesome Boatman though the name sounds familiar. Is it a jig/reel type tune or an air/song?
All the best,
Sean
Hi Sean, The Lonesome
Hi Sean,
The Lonesome Boatman is by Finbar Furey. I think you would call it an Air.
It's a fairly modern piece (maybe 30 years old,or less)
Here is a link to Youtube where there is a version of it played with the Furey Brothers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3cl7Q2GI50
There is a introduction piece before the music starts (after about 3 minutes )
However his version on the solo album "The Water is Wide" is much better. You can get that on i-tunes
Ahh, the Fureys -- I haven't
Ahh, the Fureys -- I haven't heard them in years! I'm not familiar with that song but if I have time to learn it I'll post a video.
